Showcase presentation in the foyer
April 2004
The technology collection exhibited devices for 8 and 70 mm – i.e., the smallest and the largest film stock – that were developed and built in the DEFA workshops. At the heart of the exhibition was the reflex camera "DEFA Reflex", developed in the DEFA feature film studios and engineered in Babelsberg by Georg Maidorn, Günter Stockmann, Albrecht Zörner, Ernst Petzer and Manfred Pellau between 1961 and 1964. Original engineering drawings, photos of the camera being used on set, press releases and spare parts complemented the presentation of this exceptional East-German invention.
As a contrast, the exhibition displayed one of the "Muck" 8 mm toy projectors that were mass-produced in DEFA′s device factory in Berlin-Friedrichshagen since 1960. In combination with some home film catalogues and 8 mm films produced for sale, the device illustrated typical features of GDR home cinemas.
