In its collections on the history of the Babelsberg studios, Filmmuseum Potsdam pays special attention to the development of set design / draftsmanship – a domain of film work that usually gets little recognition from the general public but, nevertheless, contributes significantly to the effect of a feature film. Hans Poppe (1928 - 1999) started his career at the DEFA studios as assistant of renowned German set designer / draftsman Erich Zander, who worked with directors such as Wolfgang Liebeneiner, Veit Harlan, Paul Verhoeven and Wolfgang Staudte.
As a set designer, he developed the visual worlds for films like “Das Feuerzeug” (1959), “Beschreibung eines Sommers” (1963) “Mir nach Canaillen” (1964) and “Der verlorene Engel” (1966/1971).
The exhibition presented works from the estate of Hans Poppe.
