Jenny Gröllmann – Photographic Memories

11 July – 7 September 2008
Jenny Gröllmann’s career as a theatre, television, and film actress spanned more than 40 years, during which she played dreamy, snappish girls as well as serene, melancholic, or self-confident young women.
When she was 14 years old, she played the leading role in Brecht’s “Die Gesichte der Simone Machard” at Dresdner Staatsschauspiel. By the age of 16, she enrolled at Berlin Acting School and became a member of the company of Maxim Gorki Theatre. In her first feature film “Geschichten jener Nacht” (Episode 2: “Die Prüfung” / directed by Ulrich Thein, GDR, 1967) she played 18-year-old Jutta, a girl who has to face two challenges at once: making her Abitur and dealing with her parents’ intention to leave the country. Her first leading role in Ingrid Reschke’s “Kennen Sie Urban?” was Gila, a headstrong girl who marries a young former prisoner against her parents’ will. In Roland Gräf’s “Die Flucht”, she brilliantly co-starred with Armin Mueller-Stahl. Her performance in Hermann Zschoche’s “Hälfte des Lebens”, a film on the life of Friedrich Hölderlin, was one of her most beautiful and impressive ones – and, at the same time, marked the peak of her career. In the 1990s, she frequently appeared in TV series such as “Liebling Kreuzberg”, “Schwurgericht”, or “Polizeiruf 110”. “Erbsen auf halb 6” was her last feature film.
