DVD: “Lutz Dammbeck: Films and Media Collages, 1975 - 1986”
The fact that Lutz Dammbeck created film art in the GDR can be considered an absurdity. When he left the state in 1986, he could already look back on a 10-year career as an underground filmmaker and performer. The early animation films that the graphic artist and filmmaker created in Dresden and Babelsberg breathe the dream of flying, of transcending boundaries, contrasting dark colours with lifeless grey. At their core, they reveal structures of domination – and this is how his current films work as well.
