Filmmuseum Potsdam is an institution of the Federal State of Brandenburg and assigned to the Brandenburg Department of Sciences, Research and Culture.

Exhibitions, film screenings, events and our publications are designed to meet the needs of visitors interested in arts as well as the purpose of film and media education. We are putting special emphasis to the idea of linking film history with current issues from arts and politics.

Our collections primarily document the development of the Babelsberg film studios, its artists and films from 1912 until today. In gathering items for the collections, we focus on the film and cinema history of the Soviet Occupation Zone and the GDR. The history of film technology and equipment in Germany is another major field of interest of the collections. They are open to the public. For all our ressources, Access-based database information is available.

The museum cooperates with numerous institutions, initiatives and people both in Germany and abroad. An association of friends and patrons provides support.

Filmmuseum Potsdam presents films and exhibitions in the Marstall in Potsdam's historical city centre. The collections are housed in the depots and archives at Pappelallee 20.
